Inspired by lacemaking and lacemakers, these solid silver earrings are part of our LACE collection. These Clones Knot earrings are handmade using 100% recycled silver, and are hallmarked to guarantee quality and made in Ireland.

Clones lace is an Irish crochet lace characterised by use of a crochet hook with the motifs joined by a distinctive ‘Clones Knot’ – a ball made by turning the hook ten to twelve times around the thread. It comes from the area of Clones, in Co. Monaghan, famed for its intricate lacemaking, a thriving cottage industry after the Irish famine of 1850s.
These Clones Knot earrings are dedicated to the women of Clones, particularly Maire Treanor, who taught me how to make Clones lace, at the Cassandra Hand Summer School of Lace, an annual gathering of lacemakers from around the world. It is also dedicated to the lacemakers of the world, and to the women of the Ukraine, who are helping Irish crochet not just survive but flourish.
